Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Vishwas Kailash Sarang, and Lt Gen Prit Pal Singh, AVSM, GOC of 21 Corps, attended the curtain raiser for the 'Fit India - Come Run with Indian Army' marathon at the Ravindra Bhawan auditorium in the state capital on Friday.
The marathon—scheduled for January 19, 2025—marks celebrations around Army Day and aims to promote fitness and patriotism among the public.The Army Marathon Bhopal 2025 will feature categories to suit participants of all age groups and proficiency levels.
The event will comprise a 21 km Half Marathon, a 10 km Competitive Run, and a 5 km Run. Participants will receive medals and certificates, with top finishers competing for cash prizes. The marathon’s route will traverse Bhopal’s scenic and iconic landmarks, ensuring an exciting experience for all participants.Adding to the excitement and fanfare, the event will showcase thrilling military displays.
These attractions aim to inspire the younger generation and strengthen the bond between the Army and civilians.The marathon’s theme, “Fit India - Come Run with Indian Army,” is in alignment with the Army’s ethos of fitness and unity.
This event is expected to attract thousands of participants and reinforce the message of the “Fit India Movement.”Several distinguished guests attended the curtain raiser and added to its gravitas. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism; Chander Sekhar Sharma, CGM, SBI; Ramnish Geer, IPS, Joint Director of CBI; and Dipak Basu, Executive Director & State Head, IOCL, MP&CG.
As a tribute to Army Day, the marathon stands as a symbol of the valor and sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Minister Sarang said that the event seeks to honour this military legacy while fostering patriotic fervour and community spirit.
Army Day is celebrated to mark the historic takeover of command by Lt Gen Kodandera M Cariappa (later Field Marshal) from the British on January 15, 1949.
