Indian Police Service (IPS) of 1990 batch, Anurag Gupta, assumed charge as Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP), Jharkhand at the State Police Headquarters here on Friday.
During the assumption of charge, Gupta in his address stressed the need for the police to be sensitive about being committed to the service and security of the public, as well as the objective of the police to strengthen law and order, control crime and maintain peace and trust in the society.
The DGP said in his address, he talked about strengthening trust and dialogue among the public and emphasized on treating all citizens with fairness and equality and paying special attention to speedy justice to the victim. Special attention will be given to the safety of women, children and weaker sections, he added.
Gupta said that meaningful efforts will be ensured by forming a separate police team to prevent cyber, organized crimes and illegal drugs using technical resources etc. Special emphasis was laid on ensuring meaningful efforts to make Jharkhand a crime-free and safe state.
During the assumption of charge, Director General of Police Headquarters, RK Mallick, Additional Director General of Police Operations, Dr. Sanjay Anandrao Lathkar, Additional Director General of Police Modernization and Training Suman Gupta, Inspector General of Police Operations, Amol Vinukant Homkar, Inspector General of Police Provision, Pankaj Kamboj, Inspector General of Police Training, Annepu Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Inspector General of Police Jharkhand Jaguar, Indrajit Mahatha, Deputy Inspector General of Police Special Branch, Karthik S., Deputy Inspector General of Police Personnel, Naushad Alam and other police officers were present.
Gupta was removed from the charge of DGP in-charge before the Assembly elections on the orders of the Election Commission of India. Senior most IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh was made the DGP during the elections in Jharkhand.
