AIIMS Happiness centre organises lecture on Holistic value education

AIIMS Bhopal, through its Centre of Happiness, organized the first lecture in its Expert Lecture Series, focusing on ‘Holistic Value Education: Perspectives from Bharat k parampareyen with special reference to Patañjali Yogas?tras and Upani?ads", on Thursday, 19 September 2024. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Richa Chopra, Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at the Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems, IIT Kharagpur, and Senior Faculty with the Art of Living Foundation.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhopal, underscored the significance of this initiative: "At AIIMS Bhopal, we are committed not only to clinical excellence but also to fostering a culture of holistic well-being. This collaboration with the Rekhi Foundation and the Indian Knowledge Systems reflects our broader vision of integrating age-old wisdom with modern medical practice. The insights from the Patañjali Yogas?tras and Upani?ads, provide invaluable lessons for healthcare professionals, helping them maintain a healthy balance between professional responsibilities and personal well-being." Prof. Singh also highlighted the importance of value-based education in building compassionate healthcare professionals who can offer not only physical care but emotional and spiritual support to patients.

Dr. Richa Chopra, with her vast experience in the field of Indian Knowledge Systems and holistic education, emphasized the relevance of ancient wisdom, particularly the teachings of the Patañjali Yogas?tras and the Upani?ads, in modern times. She explained how these philosophies offer guidance for integrating mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being into daily life, particularly within academic and healthcare environments. Dr. Chopra highlighted the importance of self-awareness, ethical living, and mindfulness as essential tools for a balanced life.

This session was held in academic collaboration with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness and the Department of Translational Medicine at AIIMS Bhopal, aimed at providing the academic community and healthcare professionals insights into India's rich knowledge systems, particularly in the context of holistic well-being.
