A Sarv Dharm Prarthna Sabha marked the inauguration of the new state office of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday. Singrauli Mayor and State President Rani Aggarwal helmed proceedings, which were attended by a bevy of party leaders and workers.
The office—located near the Subhash Nagar railway crossing, close to the Prabhat Petrol Pump in the state capital—will serve as the epicentre of party activities in Madhya Pradesh.
AAP, which currently holds about 2.5 percent of the vote in the state, has been working to strengthen its organisation with attempts to reach out and address various sections of society, informs party spokesperson and media in-charge Bhupendra Sharma 'Vikal'.
He said that the party's central leadership has promised to strategise future plans based on feedback received from the state unit.
"We have appointed district-level bodies and created and strengthened various wings to consolidate the party's performance in the state," he added.
Meanwhile, State Unit Chief Aggarwal addressed the media and held consultations with various district presidents and unit chiefs who were present at the inauguration ceremony.
The AAP has been promising a viable third alternative in the state, but repeated changes in the party's central command have set back its plans in the state.
The party currently has 22 elected representatives in various civic bodies across the state and had surprised many with Aggarwal's stunning victory in the Singrauli mayoral election.Party leaders say that Aggarwal's win has helped AAP regain supporters who had lost interest in the party's activities. "We have worked tirelessly, and now we can say that we are in a position to consolidate our politics in the state," iterates Sharma."We have ensured that the central leadership is both cognisant and supportive of our struggles in Madhya Pradesh," he adds.
