AAP Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal on Thursday late evening, stating that they stand strongly with the AAP chief.
This is the first such meeting of the party’s Punjab MPs with Sunita Kejriwal, who has been in a limelight ever since AAP’s National Convenor was arrested in the now scrapped excise policy linked money laundering scam. She addressed the public on behalf of her husband for the first time on March 23 sitting on the CM’s chair and then made her political debut in the INDIA bloc “Loktantra Bachao” (save democracy) rally organised in Jantar Mantar in the national capital.
AAP’s National General Secretary (Organisation) Dr. Sandeep Pathak, along with Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjeev Arora, Vikramjit Sahney and Ashok Mittal were present at the meeting with the former IRS officer at her residence.
The MPs said, “We stand with the party with utmost devotion and honesty. We are all united in this hour of crisis. There is tremendous anger among the public against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. The public will answer this arrest by voting in Delhi and Punjab, ‘Jail ka Jawab, Vote se’.”
AAP Punjab MP Sanjeev Arora shared the picture of the meet on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. Along with Sunita Kejriwal, the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) and Rajya Sabha member Dr. Sandeep Pathak, Sanjeev Arora, Vikramjit Sahney and Ashok Mittal are also seen in the picture. “Today met Sunita Kejriwal ji, wife of Delhi CM @ArvindKejriwal ji, at her residence along with esteemed colleagues @SandeepPathak04, @vikramsahney, and Ashok Mittal. Her courage and steadfastness shine as a beacon of resilience,” read the post by Sanjeev Arora on ‘X’.
Further, all the MPs told Kejriwal that they stand firmly with the AAP supremo. “He is fighting for the people. The BJP will bear the consequences of sending him behind bars,” they said.
However, the continuing absence of Arvind Kejriwal’s trusted aides Raghav Chadha and Swati Maliwal on grounds of personal emergencies continues to be a source of speculation at a time the party is trying to keep its house together. Maliwal, who has been in the US for some time now caring for her sister, is expected to return “very soon” according to party sources. Chadha, who according to AAP underwent surgery for an eye condition in the last week of March, has been advised a three-week rest. While party sources maintained that he too is set to return soon they were non-committal on how quickly that will be. Both Chadha and Maliwal have been active on social media, commenting on developments related to the party.
