8 members of inter-State ‘Pahadi Gang’ held

The Commissionerate police arrested eight members of notorious inter-State ‘Pahadi Gang’ which was involved in number of loots in the capital city.

City DCP Prateek Singh said the arrested accused hail from Jharkhand and West Bengal.

The gang members are active in States like Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha and they keep moving from one place to another to evade police action, Singh said.

Based on an intelligence inputs, a police team conducted a raidand nabbed the accused. The police have seized 22 mobile phones, Rs. 1.30 lakh cash, many SIM cards and memory chips from their possessions, the DCP said. 

The DCP said the criminals used to loot passengers in Mo Bus and in other areas of Bhubaneswar. They used to steal the mobile phones from people, hack the UPI and steal money from their bank accounts.

As many eight cases against them are pending in capital police station. In one such case, they hacked the mobile of a victim and cleaned off Rs 14 lakh from his bank account.

It is worth mentioning that several cases have been registered against these accused persons in the police stations of Odisha and other States.

The gang members get divided into small groups and spread into different parts of Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack other areas in and outside Odisha.

Investigation was going on and more members of the gang would be arrested soon, police said.
