A six-day comprehensive Foundation Course for the MBBS 2024 batch was inaugurated on Monday, 2nd September 2024 at AIIMS Bhopal designed to orient and prepare new students for their medical education journey. The course was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, in the presence of faculty members and students. A total of 122 students have enrolled in this year's batch.
During his inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh emphasized the importance of a receptive and open-minded approach to learning. He encouraged students to see learning opportunities in every aspect of their environment, including from their interactions with patients. "A patient can also teach you valuable lessons," he remarked, underlining the need for empathy in the medical profession. Prof. Singh further stressed that teachers should serve as role models for their students, guiding them not only academically but also in developing strong ethical and professional values. "Learning is a lifelong process," he noted, urging students to maintain discipline, adhere to rules, and always be open to seeking help when faced with challenges. He also highlighted the significance of proper attire in maintaining the dignity and decorum expected of future healthcare professionals. Concluding his speech, Prof. Singh extended his best wishes to the new batch, encouraging them to make the most of their time at AIIMS Bhopal.
Earlier in the program, Dr. Vaishali Waindeskar, Chairman of the Centre for Medical Education and Training (CMET), welcomed the students and provided an overview of the Foundation Course. She outlined the key objectives of the course, which include orientation visits to the hospital and library, stress management sessions, student wellness programs, communication skills workshops, and other essential training modules aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their medical education.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Dean (Academics), various Heads of Departments (HoDs), and other faculty members, who collectively welcomed the new students and expressed their commitment to supporting their academic and personal development throughout their time at AIIMS Bhopal.
The Foundation Course is part of AIIMS Bhopal's continued efforts to provide a holistic educational experience that not only imparts medical knowledge but also instills values of empathy, discipline, and lifelong learning in its students.
