On the initiative of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is sensitive towards the workers and labourers of Jharkhand, once again the process of bringing back 50 Jharkhandi workers stranded abroad to their homes and villages has been started. All the workers will return to Jharkhand from 11 to 18 December. The necessary paperwork for this has been completed.
The State Migrant Control Room received a complaint on 24 September 2024 about 70 Jharkhandi workers stranded in Malaysia's Leadmaster Engineering and Construction Company. It was told that the workers' salary is pending for four months, they are facing problems of non-availability of food and return to the country.
By the time the Chief Minister came to know about the matter, the code of conduct for the elections was implemented, after which the process of their return had slowed down, but after the elections were over and the new government was formed, the way for the workers to return to their homeland has now been cleared. Out of 70 workers, 50 are from Jharkhand and the rest are from other states.
According to the information, the salary of all the workers was fixed at 1,700 Malaysian Ringgit (currency/rupees) as per the contract, but they were being given only 1,500 Ringgit, which was also being deducted. Food facility was not provided and threats were also being received.
The workers also lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Police regarding this. Later, the workers sent the necessary documents and application related to this matter to the Labour Department. As per the instructions of the Labour Department, the matter letter was sent to the Protector of Emigrants, Ranchi by the State Migrant Control Room. On the initiative of the Labour Department, the Indian Embassy, Kuala Lumpur called the company and the workers to the Embassy office where both the parties were verified, as a result of which the Indian Embassy kept all the workers under its protection and asked the company to pay the outstanding amount and ensure the return of the workers to India.
