Under the joint aegis of Vikas Bharti Bishunpur and Foundation for Betterment of Humankind, a program named “Didi Sammelan” was organized on the occasion of Women's Day, like every year, at Vikas Bharti's Ranchi center here on Wednesday.
In this programme, Chami Murmu, a famous environmental activist and decorated with Padma Shri for her excellent work, had the dignified presence as the chief guest. On this occasion, 500 didis of economically strong Jharkhand state were honoured by the Vice President of the organization Dr. Ranjana Kumari by giving them traditional body clothes. Along with this, in the memory of the brave women of Santhali community, Phoolo and Jhanno, Padma Shri recipient Chami Murmu, who has achieved special achievements in various work fields, along with other 10 women named respectively Roshni Khalkho, woman leader, Aastha Kiran, woman entrepreneur, Dimple Mishra, Handicraft, Putul Devi, Women Leader, Neema Kumari, Cycle Race (Sports), Geeta Ohdar, Social Worker, Sumedha Sengupta, Dancer (Odissi), Kumkum Maitra, Educationist, Rudan Devi, Sohrai Painting and Parvati Munda, a woman leader, were also awarded the “Phulo-Jhano Award”.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the organization Ashok Bhagat said in his address that today women are hoisting their flag in every field, be it water, land or sky, today women are making their presence felt everywhere. He further said that Vikas Bharti Bishnupur considers women empowerment as its main responsibility since the beginning and the organization has been doing this work continuously for the last many years.
Among the guests present, Ragini Rai, Dr. Smriti Singh, Mary Stella, Beena Srivastava, Aastha Kiran as well as Chami Murmu in their introduction addressed the struggles and challenges of women, their achievements and how they are present on the world stage. They are raising the flag of their country high in various fields but keeping their views expressed.
Apart from this, the organization also provided financial assistance in the form of checks to 19 Self Help Groups (SHGs) from Jharkhand state in view of their social work. Under the cultural program, beautiful songs and dances were presented by the students of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Ranchi, and the solo dance presented by nationally renowned Odissi dancer Sumedha Sengupta ji especially impressed everyone.
