INDIA LIFTS MAIDEN GOLD AT CHESS OLYMPIAD

In the battle of black and white India rose to the crown, the country’s men’s and women’s contingent both have made the country proud by creating history, clinching the gold medal at the Chess Olympiad 2024 on Sunday. This is the triumph of India’s first ever gold medal for the nation in the highly regarded chess tournament.

India’s chess grandmaster D Gukesh beats Vladimir Fedoseevo from Slovenia and Arjun Erigaisi, who has also had a outstanding feat in Budapest picked up a win over Serbian Jan Subelj on the final day of the event.

The Indian team for the open category included Gukesh, Erigaisi, Praggnanandhaa R, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna and Srinath Narayanan(Captain). The team who had a unbeaten streak in the tournament with incredible performances against Fabiano Caruana of United States(2.5-1.5)  on Saturday day before the final round of the event which gave confirmation of gold medal.

India despite having 19 points on the tally(table topper) only China is right after the India in points tally with 17 points which gave the medal confirmation, if somehow china takes 2 points in the final 11 round both teams going to share the gold medal.

18-year old Gukesh Dommaraju hails from Chennai marks his presence on the world stage after the historic India’s maiden gold medal in the 45th Chess Olympiad, along with women’s success with Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agarwal and Tania Sachdev is leading against Azerbaijan in the final by 1-0 gave India double joy with another gold medal in their category.

Gukesh personify a character who knows how to control his nerves in the tense situation in the crucial moments which helps him during the tournaments.

International Chess Federation Congratulated the team’s success on platform X Congratulations to Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna and Srinath Narayanan (Captain), anand Mahindra gave his wishes on X Indian Women and Men.. Both WORLD CHAMPIONS An extraordinary  feat May this inspire future generations of Indians to always keep the crown in the place where Chess Began. Welcome home, Chess. Swagatam.

The legendary Viswanathan Anand, held the FIDE(The International Chess Federation)title from 2000 to 2002, and the unified title from 2007 to 2013.

Gukesh D (challenger) and Ding will face each other again in the FIDE World Championship Match 2024, which is going to happen between November 20 and December 15 this year in Singapore.

This victorious moment has opened the doors for young minds for increased participation all across the nation and will work as the baton for the future generation.
