Bengal stunned by psychopath rapist

Tuesday, 27 August 2024 | Saugar Sengupta | Kolkata

Former RG Kar Medical College principal Dr Sandip Ghosh aided by his "team of crony doctors" and even an advocate had taken all the measures so as to "sabotage and dilute" the forensic test results of the victim postgraduate lady doctor who had allegedly been raped and murdered in the night intervening August 8 and 9 triggering massive nation-wide stir paralysing medical services both in Bengal and other parts of India.

According to a former head clerk of the RG Kar mortuary section Ghosh had influenced the constitution of "team of doctors who belonged to his own coterie" to perform the autopsy test. This was done by ignoring and keeping out "very senior doctors of the forensic department of the Hospital," he said adding also that "despite the RG Kar Hospital has a most modern system of preservation of dead bodies with 68 chambers… in 4 degree temperature... the forensic team conducted an hurried autopsy in about one hour" while the police threw all norms and protocols to the wind by disposing off the body in a matter of a few hours.

"The autopsy report seems to have been prepared in a most amateurish manner… proper terms have not been used in right places… minute details have been avoided… which will make it very difficult for the prosecution to prove the case beyond doubts … a good defence lawyer will pierce through the prosecution case and it will be difficult for the Court to award punishment to the prime accused who is now in CBI custody," said Dr Subarna Goswami a senior doctor.

Besides, buttressing the CBI's arguments footages have gone viral in the social media where it is seen that a number of "outside doctors and an advocate belonging to a political party" who are not connected to the RGKMCH visiting the place of occurrence along with Dr Sandip Ghosh in the night of August 9, hours after the victim's body was discovered.

The said former head clerk of the Hospital also questioned the reason behind the police failing to cordon off the area and allowing Dr Ghosh and his friends to visit the place of occurrence and hold meeting there.

"If what is being said is true then the conduct of these people is under question … the role of the police should come under the scanner… the thumb rule is that after a heinous crime like this everyone around comes under suspicion and so no one… even the principal… let alone any outsider should be allowed in the PO and here people roamed about the area freely… the question is whose interests they were serving," asked the said head clerk of the hospital.

Meanwhile, in a related development the Kolkata Police on Monday declared illegal the protest march towards the State secretariat Nabanna demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as illegal and warned strict action would be taken against those who would play mischief.

Additional Director General of Police (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar said that the "a hitherto unknown students' organization called Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj has given us intimation --- and not sought any permission --- that they will be taking a procession to the prohibited areas … one of their leaders yesterday met a senior politician at a five star hotel … apparently making their intentions to create trouble clear … they as well as all the right thinking people of the State are requested not to venture into such action."

He also said that a joint forum of citizens had indeed sought such permission but that had been "rejected" considering law and order issues and also a UGC NET exam scheduled for Tuesday. However the leadership of the said students' wing said they would march towards the Nabanna and get the Chief Minister to resign "taking responsibility as the Health Minister and the Home Minister of the State for the RG Kar incident."
