A historic win: PM

Wednesday, 09 October 2024 | PNS | New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the BJP’s win in the Haryana Assembly polls as a victory of its politics of development and good governance, assuring people that the party will leave no stone unturned to fulfile people’s aspirations.

Addressing the party workers at the party headquarters after the results of the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, PM Modi said that farmers in Haryana have given Congress a “befitting reply”, and showed that they are with the country and with BJP.

“People of Haryana have scripted history by blossoming lotus. They have not only made the BJP win but gave the highest number of votes to the party,” he said.

Terming the BJP’s victory in Haryana as historic, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the voters for giving a clear majority to the BJP for a record third term. He also called this the “victory of the Constitution”.

The PM said the people of Haryana have done wonders. “Jaha doodh-dahi ka khana, waisa hai apna Haryana’...Today is the sixth day of Navratri, the day of Maa Katyayani. Maa Katyayani is sitting on a lion with a lotus in her hand. She is blessing all of us. On such a holy day, lotus has bloomed in Haryana for the third time,” he added.

He slammed the Congress party for spreading ‘hatred’ and misleading the voters on different issues including that of farmers and Agniveers.  “...For some time now, many conspiracies are being hatched against India. Many conspiracies are being hatched to weaken India’s democracy and social fabric. International conspiracies are being hatched. National parties like Congress and their allies are involved in this game. Today Haryana has given a befitting reply to every such conspiracy. Every Indian will have to take a pledge that we will not let any such conspiracy succeed. India will not deviate from the path of development,” he said.

He said the Congress tried to provoke Dalits, tribals, farmers and youth in all possible ways, but people saw through its tricks and propaganda and rejected the party. The PM said farmers in Haryana gave Congress a befitting reply, showed they are with the country, with the BJP.

Modi said whenever the BJP forms a government in any state, people support it for a long time and put “no entry” boards for the Congress. “Congress rarely comes back to power. It was 13 years ago that the Congress came back to power in Assam and there are some states where the Congress has not returned to power for 60 years,” he said.

“Once the people throw out Congress, they do not let it come back. They put ‘no entry’ boards for Congress... It is a party that always thought power was its birthright. In the land of Gita, truth and development and good governance have won,” the PM.

PM Modi accused the Congress of indulging in an international conspiracy to defame the country. He alleged that the Congress has become a ‘parasite’ (parjeevi) that is dependent on its alliance partners and at times, ends up swallowing them.

Modi said Haryana was established in 1966, and to date, 13 elections have been held in the state.”In 10 of these elections, the people of Haryana changed the government every five years. However, the people of Haryana have achieved something remarkable. For the first time, a government has been given the opportunity for the third consecutive time,” Modi said.

On Jammu and Kashmir, Modi said peaceful elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir, votes were counted and results were declared and this is the victory of the Indian Constitution and democracy.

Earlier,  in a series of posts on X, Modi also complimented the National Conference for its “commendable” performance in the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. These elections in Jammu and Kashmir were very special, he said, noting that they were held for the first time after the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A) and witnessed a high turnout, showing people’s belief in democracy. He offered compliments to “each and every person” of the Union Territory for this.

Expressing heartfelt thanks to the people of Haryana, he conveyed his gratitude to them for giving the BJP a majority for a third straight term. Describing the win as a grand victory, he hailed the party’s “hardworking” members for serving the people and taking the organisation’s development agenda to them. “The BJP has achieved this historic win due to this,” Modi asserted. With the party also notching up its best-ever tally in Jammu and Kashmir as in Haryana, he said he was proud of the BJP’s performance in the Union Territory.

“I thank all those who have voted for our party and placed their trust in us. I assure the people that we will keep working for the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, praising party workers for their hard work. The BJP has won 48 and 29 seats in Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir Assemblies respectively. Both legislatures have 90 members.
