Two heavily armed terrorists believed to be Pakistani were neutralized by the troops of the Indian army while they were attempting to infiltrate inside the Indian territory in the Laam sector of Nowshera in the frontier district of Rajouri on Monday.

Due to the ongoing election process in the region, the security grid has been kept in a state of high alert to prevent any untoward incident. J&K BJP Chief Ravinder Raina is in a straight fight with the National Conference candidate Surinder Choudhary from the Nowshera Assembly segment.

According to official sources, the alert troops deployed along the line of control had picked up the suspected movement of terrorists in the forward area of the Laam sector late Sunday night.

Confirming the same, the Indian Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps in a post on X said that based on inputs from intelligence agencies and police regarding a likely infiltration bid, an anti-infiltration operation was launched on the intervening night of September 8 and 9 in the general area of Laam.

“Two terrorists have been neutralized and so far two AK-47, one M-4 rifle with sight, one pistol, eight grenades, assorted ammunition, personal clothing and miscellaneous war-like stores have been recovered. Surveillance is being maintained and operations are in progress”.

During the night-long operation, the Army troops illuminated the area and kept it under strict surveillance following the encounter in the forward area. The searches were launched early morning to recover the dead bodies of the terrorists.

On August 29, three terrorists were gunned down by the alert troops in two separate anti-infiltration operations along the line of control in the Machhal and Tangdhar sectors of Kupwara.

On August 19, a heavily armed group of Pakistani terrorists targeted an area domination patrol party comprising jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group of Jammu Kashmir Police (JKP) in the remote Duddu Basantgarh area of Udhampur in which one Inspector rank CRPF officer sacrificed his life in the line of duty.
