nA clash broke out between two groups when one of them was returning after immersing Lord Ganesh's idol in East Delhi's Trilokpuri area on Monday night.
According to the police on Tuesday, there is no communal angle in the incident while claims of religious colour to the fight are being circulated over social media. They said that it is suspected that a clash broke out between the two groups of residents due to their old rivalry in Trilokpuri.
DCP (East) Apoorva Gupta said, “On Monday, a PCR call at around 11 PM, was received at Mayur Vihar police station in which the caller alleged that he had been attacked by a group of boys.”
She added that reacting to the call, the local police arrived at the scene, and verified the facts and checked the adjoining CCTV footages. “By the time a team of local police reached the spot, both the groups fled away. It was found that a group of boys from Block 31 and nearby blocks, Trilokpuri, were returning from Ganesh Visarjan in Block 36m,” Gupta stated.
The DCP said that when they were passing through Block 32, Trilokpuri, they came face to face with a few boys from Block 32, with whom they had an earlier enmity. “The verbal argument between the groups escalated into a fist fight. However, no injuries were reported by either party,” she said, adding that there is no communal angle to the incident, as reported by some people.
Further, based on the present CCTV footages, all the boys involved in the fight have been identified and apprehended. “An FIR under sections 191(2), 191(3), 115(2) of BNS has been registered in this regard, and nine people have been apprehended so far. Further investigation is ongoing and peace and tranquility is prevailing in the area,” Gupta said.
