Tej Pratap Yadav, the former MP known for his simple public persona, has a penchant for gold jewelry in his private life. Currently contesting from the Karhal constituency, Yadav owns more than 2.4 kilograms of gold ornaments, significantly more than his wife, Rajlakshmi. Both Tej Pratap and Rajlakshmi are millionaires.
On Monday, Tej Pratap Yadav filed his nomination as the Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Karhal. In the affidavit submitted with his nomination papers, he disclosed details of his assets.
According to the document, Tej Pratap Yadav owns movable and immovable assets worth Rs 10.25 crore, while Rajlakshmi’s assets are valued at Rs 2.33 crore. Besides his wealth, Tej Pratap also surpasses his wife in gold ownership, possessing 2.410 kilograms of gold ornaments compared to Rajlakshmi's 240 grams.
Additionally, Tej Pratap Yadav owns two luxury vehicles—a five-year-old Jeep Camper worth around Rs 15 lakh and a two-year-old car valued at about Rs 35 lakh. Rajlakshmi, however, does not own any cars.
Tej Pratap Yadav first entered the electoral fray in 2014, contesting the Lok Sabha by-election from the Mainpuri seat. Now, a decade later, he is running in the assembly by-election from Karhal. During this period, his assets have more than doubled, increasing from Rs 4.29 crore in 2014 to Rs 10.27 crore by 2024.
