As rain lashed the national capital on Monday morning, waterlogging and traffic congestion was witnessed by officer goers in different parts of the city on their way to their workplace.
The India Meteorological Department said that a 'yellow' warning was also issued after parts of Delhi recorded rainfall on Monday. Central, south, southwest and east Delhi recorded rainfall during the morning, it added.
The met department also said that the city’s Primary weather station Safdarjung recorded 30 mm of rainfall till 8:30 am in the last 24 hours. Other weather stations including Najafgarh recorded 28.5 mm rain, Ayanagar 53.8 mm, Delhi University six mm, Lodi road 34.4 mm, Narela 14.5 mm, Palam 46 mm, Ridge seven mm, Pitampura 10 mm, Pusa 8.5 mm and Mayur Vihar’s Salwan public school 59 mm.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 32 complaints regarding waterlogging and tree falling between 6 am to 6 pm. A total of 16 calls regarding waterlogging including Ajmeri Gate, Vijay Naga, Rohini, Nangloi, Prem Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Mayapuri, Vishwakarma Nagar, Mundka, Greater Kailash, Najafgarh, and Azad Market road. A total of 16 complaints were regarding tree falling from different parts of the city including Tughlakabad, Rohini, Pitampura, Sultanpuri, Jasola, Okhla Industrial Estate, Lodi Colony and Dwarka.
The Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters about traffic diversions due to waterlogging in different areas in a series of post on X. “Traffic is affected on Anuvrat Marg in both the carriageways due to water logging near Qutub Minar Metro Station. Commuters are advised to avoid the stretch and plan their journey accordingly,” it stated. The maximum temperature was recorded at 31.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal. Delhi's minimum temperature settled at 24.8 degrees Celsius while the relative humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 100 per cent.
