Ahead of the inauguration of Ram temple at Ayodhya, a senior Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) leader has found himself in an unsavoury controversy over his comment that Lord Ram had turned a “meat eater” after he was exiled from Ayodhya kingdom.
NCP (SP) National General Secretary Jitendra Awhad had stirred up the hornet’s nest by dubbing Lord Ram as ‘meat-eater’ when he was exiled from the Ayodhya Kingdom.
While ancient scriptures and also in the Valmiki version of Ramayana epic, Awahad had said at the temple town of Shirdi in Ahmednagar district on Wednesday: “Lord Ram was never a vegetarian. He was a non-vegetarian. Where will a person living in the forests for 14 years find vegetarian food? Is it correct or not..?”
After his comments sparked a massive controversy, an unfazed Awhad softened his stand and said: “I express my regret if his comment had hurt the religious sentiments of anyone.”
