Lalu and sons granted bail in case

Tuesday, 08 October 2024 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

The fast track court on Monday granted bail to former Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his sons Tejaswi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav in the land-for-jobs in Railways case. The Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to all three on a condition that they each furnish a bail bond of Rs One lakh. The matter will be heard next on October 25.

Earlier, the Court had directed them to appear before it on October 7. While summoning Yadav and his sons, the Court had prima facie observed that Yadav had been in a position of power to facilitate public employment when he was Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009. The case pertains to alleged appointments made in the Railways in exchange for land transferred to Yadav’s family when he was a Minister.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has claimed that the appointments were not in consonance with the hiring standards and guidelines established by the Indian Railways. The Delhi court had granted bail to Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti in the case in March 2023.
