In a major development the nine agitating junior doctors on Monday called off their fast-unto-death after their demands were "only partially" conceded by the Mamata Banerjee Government.
The doctors have been on an indefinite fast since October 5 in demand of justice for the victim of RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case and an overall improvement of the State health infrastructure in the State.
"Though the body language of the Government including the Chief Minister was not positive and we were roundly threatened us during the meeting we have been able to wrench out some of our demands... Still we are withdrawing our indefinite fast consequent to the personal request of the parents of 'Abhaya' --- the victim doctor of RGKMCH --- our movement will however continue," the doctors said.
