Be it 70-year-old bhajan Samrat Padmshree Anup Jalota, 21-year-old German singer Cassandra Mei Spittmann, or GenNext Indian singers—a diverse group of artists from the music arena is strumming paeans in praise of God Ram in the run-up to the Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya on January 22.
This kind of cultural convergence, celebrating and honoring Lord Ram through their musical expressions has already drawn the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi too who last Sunday in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ noted that “There is enthusiasm and excitement across the country regarding the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. People are expressing their emotions in various ways.”
“You must have seen that in the last few days, new songs and bhajans have been composed on Shri Ram and Ayodhya. Many people are also writing new poems,” he said in his post On X. He talked about half a dozen such devotional songs spotlighting names such as Swati Mishra (Ram Aayenge), Hansraj Raghuwanshi (Yug Ram Raj Ka), Geetaben Rabari (Shree Ram Ghar Aaye), Swasti Mehul (Ram Ayenge) and Jubin Nautiyal (Mere Ghar Ram Aaye Hain), Vikas (known as JJ Vyck)and Mahesh Kukreja as well as playback singer Hariharan.
In tune with the sentiments in the air, Music companies too have focused their attention on devotional songs relating to God Ram. For instance, BhojpuriT and Bhojpur Astha supported by the Santani organization recently released a new song roping in Jalota. The title of this song, based on the construction of the Ayodhya Ram temple, is ‘Ram Lala Ghar Aa Gayile’. The song is produced by producers Shailendra Dwivedi and Director Ashutosh Upadhyay and written by Prafulla Tiwari.
Two popular faces of social media, Vipul Mishra and Tannu Upadhyay, are also featured in the song. Dwivedi said ‘’BhojpuriT aims to ‘create clean content.’ The dream of building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, seen by many of our generations in the last 500 years, is about to be fulfilled. My idea was to dedicate a song to welcome Ram Lalla on his arrival.” The venture is supported by retired police officer Ajay Raj Pandey, founder of ‘Sanatani Coins’.
Dwivedi said ‘‘we are releasing two songs; the first is on Ram Lalla's arrival. The next song is on Ram Raj's arrival, in which popular singer Swati Mishra has given her voice. The title of the upcoming song is 'Ram Raj Phir Aayil Ba.’”
Last week, Union Minister Smriti Irani during her Bihar tour launched a devotional song 'Nick Laage Raghav Ji Ke Gauvaan' sung by famous folk singer Manisha Srivastava.
The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has already issued instructions to play Ram Bhajans in the public address systems installed in its buses until January 22 to inspire travelers with the life of Lord Shri Ram.
"The broadcasting will include various artists' renditions of popular devotional songs related to Lord Ram, in addition to bhajans and hymns that are popular among people today as well as devotional songs sung by local singers," said an official from the State Government.
