Conclave to advance development of world's largest museum

Come next-week and curators, museum administrators, and domain experts from across the world will congregate at a three-day conclave from August 1-3 in the national Capital with an aim to advance the development of the proposed ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum’  which is set to be the largest museum in the world.

The conclave will be held at the Bharat Mandapam, currently the venue for the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, being held for the first time in India. ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum’ will span 154,000 square metres across the North and South Blocks in Delhi. It will feature eight thematic segments covering over 5,000 years of Indian history.

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, will address the gathering.

“The event will provide a platform for states to present their collections and contribute to the museum’s narrative, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage.

It will include master classes and workshops led by both Indian and international experts on topics like museum architecture, conservation practices, collections management, and curation,” said an official from the Union Culture Ministry.Attendees will benefit from hands-on training and networking opportunities aimed at enhancing skills in museum management and administration. The Ministry of Culture will also provide information on available funding schemes to support state-level museum development, including the updated Museum Grant Scheme and the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science, the official added.This conclave is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of India’s museum landscape and ensuring that the ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum’ meets global best practices in showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage.

"This three-day gathering aims to foster collaboration among state museums and the central government in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum’ that aims to exemplify global best practices," the official said.

"To foster a comprehensive understanding of India’s artefact wealth for the ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum’, the states have been invited to provide detailed insights into their respective state’s collections at the forthcoming state conclave," he said.

Master classes will also be held with experts from India and abroad spanning various topics such as the architecture and materiality of the North and South Block, global best practices in conservation, fine arts handling, collections management, curation and museum management, the official said.

Additionally, the Ministry will present an overview of available funding schemes, including the recently updated Museum Grant Scheme and the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science, to support state-level museum development initiatives.
