Badshahpur assembly MLA and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation (HAIC) chairman Rakesh Jhangu alias Rakesh Daultabad died on Saturday at 10.30 am due to cardiac arrest, a family member said.

He was 45.

Rakesh Daultabad, who was elected as an independent MLA ticket in the 2019 Assembly polls, developed uneasiness and was immediately shifted to a private hospital in the city on Saturday morning.

Daultabad is survived by his two sons aged 16 and 21 and his wife. His younger brother died in 2021 due to COVID-19.

"Rakesh's condition had deteriorated at his Sector -22 home and he was shifted to a private hospital. After an initial check-up, he was admitted to the ICU and the doctor provided him with heart attack treatment but he could not respond and expired," Sombir brother of Rakesh Daultabad said.

Local politicians had rushed to the hospital to enquire about Daultabad's health.

He was the founder of Parivartan Sangh, an organisation that aims at facilitating healthcare, improving education levels, empowering women and taking several other community initiatives.

Rakesh had lost the assembly election twice in 2009 and 2014. In the 2019 assembly election, he fought as an independent candidate and won the election. Congress leaders took to social media to express their grief over the sitting MLA's demise.

Meanwhile, Manipal Hospital Palam Vihar, Gurugram in a statement said a member of a legislative assembly, Rakesh Daultabad presented to the ER at 09:05 am with acute chest pain, the ECG was done immediately which showed ST elevation large myocardial infarction (extensive antero-lateral myocardial infarction), just after the ECG the patient had a massive cardiac arrest and collapsed at 09:15 am.

The cardiac massage (CPR) was started immediately, which continued for approx. 45 minutes.
