A 34-year-old neurosurgeon at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) allegedly committed suicide in his south Delhi house on Sunday.
The police identified the deceased as Raj Ghoniya who is a resident of Rajkot in Gujarat. According to a senior police officer, the doctor died due to a suspected overdose as used vials of medicines and syringes were found in his house in the Gautam Nagar area. “At around 2 pm on Sunday, a PCR call was received at the Hauz Khas police station regarding suicide by a doctor in the Gautam Nagar area. On receiving the call, police staff reached the spot where the Dr. Raj Ghoniya, permanent resident of Rajkot, Gujarat was found in an unconscious state,” DCP South Ankit Chauhan said, adding that he was taken to AIIMS hospital where he was declared dead.
A suicide note was also recovered from the spot, however, Ghoniya did not blame anyone in it, they added.
“The doctor was posted at AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Enclave as a Senior Resident Neurosurgeon. One suicide note was recovered from the address in which the deceased had written that it’s his own will and he blamed no one. Some used Vials of medicines and syringes were also found at the place,” the DCP added. However, no reason was cited by him for committing suicide and further investigation in the matter is underway. Reacting to the incident, AIIMS said that the matter is a medico legal case (MLC) and hence the hospital can’t give more details on the same.
