In a major breakthrough, Prayas JAC Society with the help of Labor Department, the local police and led by the SDM Dwarka carried out a rescue operation and successfully freed 16 children from the clutches of child labour on Monday.
The operation, which was carried out under the authority of three different police stations namely, Dwarka South, Sagarpur and Palam where 6,8 and 2 children were rescued respectively, marks a key milestone in the ongoing fight against child exploitation.
The children aged between 13-18 hailed majorly from UP, Bihar, Delhi and Haryana and were found working in different establishments. The children (all boys) were rescued from sweet shops, restaurants, automobile repair shops and 11 establishments were sealed by the SDM.
Post-rescue, the children were taken to a safe space where they received medical attention, counselling and other necessary support. The orders have been given to registerthree FIRs. Following the orders of CWC Nirmal Chaya, all the boys were placed in the Don Bosco Home.
The rescue was meticulously planned and executed by the dedicated team of Prayas in coordination with local law enforcement agencies and the Labor department. The operation was a result of extensive investigation and planning that led to the identification of locations and rescue of the children.
For the past 36 years now, Prayas JAC Society has been at the forefront of fighting for child rights and this rescue operation adds to the organization’s long list of successful interventions.
The efforts of Prayas over the years have not just been limited to rescuing and rehabilitating deprived, marginalized, exploited and abused children, women, youth but the organization also focuses on their education, skill training, employment, advocacy as well as providing essential health, services and legal assistance.
