With 14 breathtaking shows, Hyundai India Couture Week 2024 spotlighted the artistry of India’s finest couturiers. From opulent bridal wear by Abu Sandeep to avant-garde creations by Rahul Mishra. This edition underscored the visionary leadership of FDCI and the boundless creativity of the designers, leaving fashion enthusiasts eager for more, says Sakshi Priya

The 17th edition of Hyundai India Couture Week 2024 unfolded with 14 breathtaking shows, spotlighting top couturiers who seamlessly fused tradition with modernity. This glamorous event underscored the creativity and craftsmanship of the Indian fashion industry, offering a mesmerising glimpse into the future of haute couture.

The Hyundai India Couture Week opened with a breathtaking display by  Abu Sandeep’s Triumph of Love collection was a shining fusion of tradition and modernity, redefining bridal and groom wear with a disco mujra twist. The breathtaking display by Abu Sandeep with Wamiqa Gabbi as the ‘ASAL’ bride and Taha Shah Badussha as the ‘MARD’ groom, setting a high bar for the week’s fusion of tradition and modernity. This collection stood out as a true celebration of love and craftsmanship, reflecting Abu Sandeep’s ability to combine traditional elements with modern design in a way that was both respectful and innovative

The ‘Roseroom ‘fashion show by Isha Jajodia wasn’t just another event on the fashion calendar; it was a living, breathing fairy tale. Jacqueline Fernandez stole the spotlight as the show-stopper, wearing a dramatic black gown that exuded confidence and grace whereas Ridhima Kapoor opened the show in a breathtaking golden ensemble that set the tone for the night. The shimmering gown and her ethereal presence made it clear that this was not just a fashion show but an experience to be savored.

Siddarth Tytler’s "Caligula’s Feast" collection exudes opulence and extravagance. Inspired by Caligula’s lavish lifestyle, the show featured Malaika Arora in a stunning grey and black lehenga with silver and gold embroidery. Rahul Khanna complemented her look in a sherwani with intricate gold and silver embroidery, paired with black boots, embodying the collection’s lavish spirit.

Kunal Rawal’s ‘Sehra’ collection offers a striking blend of traditional elegance and modern style, redefining Indian wedding couture with a fresh perspective. Aditya Roy Kapur, who stepped in as the showstopper, brought added glamour to the event, perfectly capturing the spirit of Sehra with his charismatic presence. Set against a lush, forest-inspired backdrop, ‘Sehra’ stands out as a sophisticated blend of tradition and modernity, offering a compelling take on Indian wedding fashion. In contrast, Suneet Varma’s ‘Nazm’ collection reimagines India’s rich decorative arts, blending traditional motifs and embroidery with a modern twist for today’s confident Indian woman. Dolly J’s haute couture collection at this year’s fashion week unfolded like a fairy tale with its appealing theme, “once upon a time…” Sonakshi Sinha shone as the showstopper for  becoming the highlight of the evening and perfectly capturing the grace and glamour of Dolly’s designs. She walked the runway in a stunning pink gown with touches of gold and glitter, embodying the collection’s romantic and ethereal essence. The dreamy gown was complemented by a sophisticated ring and the minimal detailing added a touch of charm and elegance.

JJ Valaya’s MURAQQA collection is an attestation to his unparalleled ability to blend historical richness with contemporary elegance. This latest collection showcases Valaya’s profound understanding of cultural heritage and his innovative approach to couture. Valaya’s MURAQQA reaffirms his status as a master of luxury fashion, blending timeless beauty with contemporary flair in a truly remarkable way.

Among the standout moments, Amit Aggarwal’s ‘ANTE VORTA,’ inspired by the Greek goddess of the futur. What makes this collection truly special is how it transforms the intangible nature of time into a series of stunning, wearable art pieces. 

Rahul Mishra’s ‘Nargis’ Collection, celebrated nature’s beauty with Lisa Ray as the showstopper in an exotic ensemble.  The collection beautifully reflects this bond, presenting nature not just as a backdrop but as an integral part of human life and creativity. The collection features intricate embroidery that vividly portrays scenes from a lush garden, like peacocks in Mughal settings and blooming pomegranates. Additionally, Jayanti Reddy’s ‘Evocative Nawabi Canvas,’ featuring Aditi Rao Hydari dazzled as the showstopper, embodying Reddy’s artistic vision with grace and elegance. She wore a stunning gold-embellished set that epitomised the grandeur and timeless appeal of the Nawabi era. The intricate gold embroidery shimmered under the runway lights and the look was completed with a beautifully crafted choker that complemented the neckline, underscoring the Nawabi theme. Gaurav Gupta’s ‘Arunodaya,’ with Khushi Kapoor and Vedang Raina, the showstoppers, perfectly embodied the collection’s theme. Kapoor’s Sand-hued mermaid skirt, adorned with crystals and Zardozi, shimmered with the dawn’s radiance. Raina’s black velvet long jacket, featuring refraction embroidery, added a dramatic flair. Their appearances underscored the collection’s elegance and innovation. Rimzim Dadu’s ‘Stucco,’ showcased by Sobhita Dhulipala, impressed with its innovative textures. She dazzled in an off-shoulder bralette paired with a glittery ivory fringe skirt and a striking necklace with a touch of green. Her classic wet hairstyle and dewy makeup accentuated the look, drawing inspiration from the flamboyance of an ostrich.

Tarun Tahiliani’s ‘Otherworldly’ pushed couture boundaries with futuristic designs. This collection promises to set new standards for what couture can be, blending elegance with practicality in a truly groundbreaking way.

The grand finale of FDCI’s ICW’2024 was a breathtaking spectacle as Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna graced the stage as showstoppers for Falguni Shane Peacock’s ‘Rang Mahal’ collection. Vicky Kaushal, known for his charismatic presence, wore a regal ensemble featuring rich velvet and intricate embroidery and contemporary design that defines the collection. Rashmika Mandanna complemented Vicky’s look with her elegance, donning a stunning saree adorned with intricate motifs from the Falguni Shane Peacock X Swadesh collaboration. The perfect finale, showcasing the artistic brilliance of the ‘Rang Mahal’ collection and making it a night to remember.

As the curtains fall on this year’s India Couture Week, the event leaves behind a legacy of innovation and elegance. The week was a tribute to the visionary leadership of FDCI Chairman Mr. Sunil Sethi and the dedication of all involved in showcasing the brilliance of Indian fashion. The fashion world eagerly awaits the next chapter, inspired by the extraordinary displays of artistry and craftsmanship from this year’s spectacular event.
