District Adhoc Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court) Tribikram Keshari Chinhara on Wednesday sentenced a person to 12 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in the district in 2021.

The court also directed the convict Saroj Kumar Nayak (29) alias Kuna, a resident of Thauri village under Marshaghai police station to pay a fine of Rs 26,000 and in default to undergo another year’s imprisonment, said Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahu.

The father of the victim girl lodged an FIR at the Sadar police station on May 22,2021 alleging that his daughter was abducted by two persons in a car and held her hostage in a house. The accused also raped her during her confinement.

However, his daughter managed to escape from the clutches of the accused and informed the family about the incident.

The Sadar police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s family against the accused and arrested him. Kuna was forwarded to court under the relevant sections of the IPC and the POSCO Act.

The court also recommended to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim for her rehabilitation, said Sahu.
