A Barwadeeh railway station bound woman passenger Basanti Devi, 25, of Ranchi  following the start of her acute labour pain, terminated her train journey at Tori railway station where on platform number 1 she delivered a healthy boy baby around 3am Wednesday. Tori railway station comes under the Latehar district.

Basanti Devi hails from Gatalsud in Ranchi. She had boarded the train for Barwadeeh but she developed acute labour pain before the Tori railway station and when the train arrived at the Tori railway station she got down with her 3 years old daughter. Her husband was not with her.

Sources said the station superintendent of the Tori railway station Ranjit Kumar proved a messiah for her as he made  all possible efforts in bringing her relief and comfort.

Sources said it was night and there was a woman in distress. The time and situation both were very delicate, said sources.

Ranjit Kumar, station superintendent of the Tori railway station confirmed this delivery on platform number 1 at the Tori railway station around 3am Wednesday night.

Ranjit Kumar said "The woman was in acute labour pain. She had by her side only a 3 year old daughter."

"I gave her a towel and sheet. I got ready for other female passengers to help her. These women responded to my request. They made a human shield around her for her privacy."

Ranjit Kumar said he phoned the community health centre of Chandwa Dr  Neelima Kumari and sought her help. He further said he phoned 108 ambulance.

The ANM Merry Topno and the ambulance did reach Tori railway station at night but by then the woman had delivered the baby boy.

Dr Neelima Kumari medical officer in charge of the community health centre Chandwa said our ANM Merry Topno in fact cut off the umbilical cord for the woman and brought the woman and the boy child in the community health centre where post delivery care and health protective measures were applied to the mother and child.

Dr Neelima Kumari said the mother and child are doing well.
