Friday, 29 December 2023 | PNS | Bhopal

Community policing scheme is necessary to empower the women affected by violence and to empower them economically to live a life in a violence-free environment. While this is a community policing initiative to prevent domestic violence, it is also a good example of women empowerment. Under this, under the efforts started by Bhopal Police along with the alliance of social organizations being run under the Conversion Round Table, the social organizations have helped such women victims of violence who want to become financially capable through self-reliance.

The proposal made with the help of the URJA Help Desk of the police station to make arrangements for the said women to open a tea-shop and tea-kiosk near the police station premises has been adopted under a special scheme by SBI under the CSR campaign.

Under this scheme, the first 20 police stations were selected which were Kamla Nagar, Piplani, Habibganj, TT Nagar, Chunabhatti, Kolar, Anandnagar, Nishantpura, Govindpura, Chhola, Arera Hills, Ratiband, Kotwali, Bagsevania, Ashoka Garden, Shahpura, Misrod, Mangalwara, Bairagarh and Shyamala Hills.

Under community policing in the Police Commissioner's office auditorium, the women beneficiaries identified as victims of domestic violence were identified under the campaign being run for women's safety by the URJA Help Desk and Shakti Committees formed in the police stations through Sangini NGO organization. It is an innovative initiative by the police to provide financial assistance through State Bank of India under Community Policing Innovation and Best Practices in order to make them empowered and self-reliant by entrusting them with the responsibility of running 'Shakti Cafe'.

Commissioner Police Bhopal Harinarayanachari stated that the community policing schemes being run in Bhopal and the special efforts made for women empowerment and child safety have been recognized as best practice at the national and international level.

He said that this Shakti Café Scheme will set another example at the national level.
