Two persons died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Kaduan village under Kadua panchayat in Kamakhyanagar bloc in Dhenkanal district on Monday.
The victims were identified as Mayadhar Dehuri and Jhumar Sethi.
Former Sarpanch Somnath Sethi said Mayadhar was stung by the bees while he was returning home from his farmland on Sunday. Villagers admitted him in the Kamskhyanagar Hospital in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. But he succumbed while undergoing treatment on Monday.
Similarly, Jhumar was attacked by the bees while he was returning home after taking a bath in the village pond. He was admitted in the Kamakhyanagar Hospital, where he succumbed on the day.
“The bees were suspected to have come from a beehive near the panchayat office. Though the beehive was destroyed earlier, it was formed again. The block officials have been informed about the incident and we hope they will find a permanent solution to the problem,” Sethi said.
