Two brothers mowed down by school bus

Friday, 22 December 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a shocking incident reported from Khutar police station area of Shahjahanpur, a school bus mowed down two brothers (both students) standing at the roadside on Thursday morning.

According to reports, 14-year-old Jeetpal Singh of Haripur village in Khutar and his 9-year-old brother Harmeet Singh were studying in Class 9 and Class 2 in Sant Sukhdev Singh Higher Secondary School in Rura village of Shahjahanpur.  On Thursday morning, their father, Gurmel Singh, was going to drop both the children to school on scooty. On the way, Gurmel Singh parked his scooter at the roadside near Udra village and went to relieve himself. Both children were standing near the scooty.

Meanwhile, a school bus carrying the children hit the scooty and crushed the children. Jeetpal was seriously injured while Harmeet died on the spot. The bus driver ran away after the accident.

On receiving information from Gurmel, the family members reached the spot and took Jeetpal to community health centre in Khutar where the doctor pronounced Jeetpal dead.

Meanwhile, as the information about the death of Jeetpal and Harmeet spread, a huge crowd gathered at the spot and staged a demonstration, demanding arrest of the driver.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Pandey and Circle Officer Pankaj Pant also reached the spot and assured the protesters of taking stern action against the driver.

Meanwhile, in another road accident in Bulandshahr, Class 12 student Neelakshi (17) of a village under Bhatta Parsaul police station left for her school on a scooter on Thursday morning. When Neelakshi reached Jhajjar police post area on Kakod-Bulandshahr road, a speeding truck coming from behind at high speed hit her scooter and later went crushing her as she fell on the road. The driver fled, leaving the truck on the spot.

Angry locals later vandalised the truck. The relatives of the deceased also reached the spot and blocked the Kakod-Bulandshahr road by placing the dead body on road.

SDM Secunderabad, CO Secunderabad along with police from four police stations reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters who were blocking the road.  There was a traffic jam on the road for more than four hours and the police had to divert vehicles on other routes.

Neelakshi’s father Kapil Kumar is a Border Security Force jawan and is currently posted in Jammu. She was the eldest among Kapil’s two daughters and one son.

In Bareilly, the body of a 22-year-old girl was found in a mango orchard in Thiriya Nijawat Khan in Cantonment area on Wednesday evening.

The girl’s throat was slit and her clothes were torn, suggesting that she was sexually abused before being murdered. The deceased could not be identified.

It is feared that the girl was murdered somewhere else and the body was thrown at the spot to conceal the crime.
