Tribal body holds rally demands delisting of converted tribals

Monday, 25 December 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

Under the banner of Janjatiya Suraksha Manch, thousands of tribals gathered at the Morabadi Ground in support of delisting rally through which they demanded that the converted Christians or any other religion should be denied the benefits of reservation and their names should be deleted from the ST list.

In the delisting mega rally organized in Ranchi, BJP senior leader and former MP from Khunti, Karia Munda said that 80% of the benefits received by the tribals are being snatched away by Christian and Muslim tribals. He said that tribals who have adopted other religions should not be considered members of Scheduled Tribes. The rally was addressed as Ulgulan Tribal Delisting Maharally. Thousands of people from the tribal community came from different districts of Jharkhand in the Maharally. Former minister Ganeshram Bhagat, national convenor of the forum, said that the constitution makers had made provision for reservation and other facilities for more than 700 tribes of the country. But these facilities are mostly availed by those people who have left their traditional customs and become Christians or Muslims.

The Janjati Suraksha Manch (JSM) is backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the outfit has been holding rallies across the country, demanding the delisting from Scheduled Tribes (ST) quota of those tribals who have converted.

The organisation has been demanding an amendment to article 341 of the constitution to delist converted tribals from the ST category. It is their claim that tribals who have converted to either Christianity or Islam have deviated from tribal customs, traditions and culture, and yet continue to gain from the tribal quota.

This Maharally has been organized with the demand of depriving those people of tribal community who have converted to religion and are availing the facility of reservation, from the facility of reservation and other demands.

Regarding this event, the national convenor of the organization and former minister of Chhattisgarh, Ganesh Ram Bhagat said that through the rally, the people of the tribal community will demand to deprive the converted persons of the reservation facilities given to the Scheduled Tribes. He said that there is a provision for this in the Constitution also. This should be implemented.

All preparations have been made at the administrative level regarding this mega rally. On the instructions of Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Singh, 400 additional soldiers have been deployed at Morabadi ground. Apart from this, all the police station in-charges of the city have been instructed to continuously visit their respective areas. PCR and patrolling vehicles have also been asked to keep a special eye on every person coming to the city while being mobile. To prevent the people coming to the rally from going out in procession on various routes of the city, barricading has been done all around the ground.

Regarding this event, SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha said that there is information about the rally to be organized at Morabadi ground. For this, strict security arrangements have been made by the police. Special care is being taken to ensure that people coming out of the city do not face any kind of problem. Arrangements for monitoring through CCTV have been made. If anyone tries to create trouble anywhere, the police will deal with him strictly.

In view of this mega rally happening today, if necessary, changes can be made in the traffic routes of the city. According to Traffic SP Kumar Gaurav, traffic personnel will be continuously deployed to maintain the traffic system. If the load of vehicles increases anywhere, the route will be changed as per the need. Traffic police is on alert regarding the rally reaching Morabadi. If the crowd comes out of the ground, then changes can be made in the form of traffic.
