In a devastating incident on Wednesday morning, a collision between two dumpers on NH-33 near Manoharpur Colony in Ghatshila claimed the lives of three individuals and left one seriously injured. The collision occurred approximately 45 km away from the city.
The victims of the tragic mishap have been identified as Pabitra Karmakar (23) and Sanoj Karmakar (24), both labourers, and Ambuj Mahto (26), the driver of the dumper. Another labourer, whose name is yet to be ascertained, sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH).
According to the police report, the incident unfolded when a dumper experienced a breakdown and was undergoing repairs with the assistance of labourers on the side of NH-33. While the labourers were engrossed in the repair work, a sand-laden dumper approached at a high speed from behind, colliding with the stationary dumper.
The impact of the collision resulted in the instantaneous deaths of two labourers and the dumper's driver. The third labourer suffered severe injuries and was promptly rushed to MGMMCH for medical attention.
The dumper responsible for the collision sustained significant damage, particularly to its cabin. Retrieval of the driver's body necessitated the use of a gas-cutting machine, highlighting the intensity of the collision.
Prabitra Karmakar hailed from Ghatshila, while Sanoj Karmakar and Ambuj Mahto were residents of Rajnagar and Seraikela, respectively.
The local authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the collision. Preliminary reports suggest a breakdown in one dumper and a subsequent failure to control the speed of the sand-laden vehicle, resulting in the tragic incident.
