In a heart-wrenching incident, two teenagers lost their lives while enjoying a bath in the Subernarekha River near Jamshedpur. The tragic event unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, along the Kapali Thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Victims Identified: The victims were identified as Adarsh Pandey (14) and Karnbir Singh (15), both residents of Anil Sur Path at Ulyan in Kadma. The third boy, who was also drowning, was fortunate enough to be rescued by local fishermen present at the spot.
Picnic Trip Turns Tragic: According to police reports, the group of six boys, aged between 14 and 15 years, had embarked on a picnic trip from their homes in Kadma. Their journey took them to Sapra, under Gamharia Thana area, near the Domuhani—the convergence point of Kharkai and Subernarekha rivers. After spending some joyful moments there, the boys proceeded to Kapali with the intention of taking a bath in the Kapali Ghaat along the Subernarekha River.
Rescue Attempt and Tragedy: Tragedy struck when three boys took a plunge into the river for a bath. Local fishermen present at the scene managed to rescue one of the victims, averting a potential third fatality. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Adarsh Pandey and Karnbir Singh lost their lives.
Efforts to Save Lives: After the fishermen recovered the bodies from the water, local residents rushed them to Tata Main Hospital and MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH). However, the emergency medical staff at both hospitals declared them dead.
Postmortem Procedures: Kapali Thana Officer-in-Charge, Sandeep Kumar, has taken charge of the situation and seized both bodies from Tata Main Hospital and MGMMCH. The bodies are scheduled to undergo postmortem examinations at the medical college mortuary.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock, emphasizing the need for increased safety awareness, especially during water-related activities.
