The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Police on Saturday arrested a Kashmiri youth with suspected terror links from Neulapur in Jajpur district. The accused had been staying in Jajpur district from 2018.
The accused was identified as Sayed Ishaan Bukhari (37).
Several forged documents like medical degree certificate issued by Cornel University of USA, Canadian Health Services Institute, Christian Medical College, Vellore, have been seized. Some blank-signed documents/ affidavits/ bonds, numerous identity cards, ATM cards, blank cheques, Aadhaar cards, visiting cards have also been seized from his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bukhari was in touch with suspicious persons in Kerala and some Pakistani nationals too. He married at least six to seven girls from various parts of India including Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha. He was also active on various websites and apps and was in romantic relationships with many girls impersonating as a doctor with international degrees.
The STF said the accused was found to be impersonating as a neuro specialist doctor, an Army doctor, an officer in PMO and an associate of NIA officials.
The STF said the accused had some links with anti-national elements, but his exact role needs a detailed investigation.
“We have ample evidence against the accused being a fraudster. It is very early to say anything regarding his involvement as far as terror angle is concerned, and it is being investigated. However, there are some links and we do not have much evidence in this regard as of now,” said STF IG Jay Narayan Pankaj.
“However, we are in touch with the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and Jammu and Kashmir police,” Pankaj added.
After a case was registered in Jammu and Kashmir, Bukhari was frequently changing locations across the country. Sources said that no arms and ammunition were seized from the accused during the raid.
Four mobile phones seized from the accused would be sent for examination to collect information about the chats and links.
