The Jharkhand government is very sensitive and serious about the liquid waste management of cities, that is why work on either sewerage or septage schemes is going on at a fast pace in most of the municipal bodies of the state. Speaking at a stakeholders meeting organized on the topic of liquid waste management, said Amit Kumar, Director of State Urban Development Agency here on Tuesday.
In a meeting with representatives of many reputed PSUs of the country, Kumar said that our government is determined to provide pure drinking water through pipeline to the homes of every urban citizen and hence we are giving free water connections to everyone, but this work is not limited to urban areas. The bodies have partial responsibility and our responsibilities are not fulfilled just by doing this. He said that we have to strengthen the natural resources and for this we have to adopt the reuse system in our lifestyle. Therefore, it is important that we re-treat the used water and use it as secondary water. He urged for maximum use of treated water instead of fresh water used in heavy industries. He said that with this we will conserve our natural resources and the revenue coming from this water will be used for the maintenance of the treatment plant.
A stakeholders meeting was organized under the joint aegis of the Urban Development and Housing Department of the State Government and the United States organization USAID, in which discussions were held between various stakeholders on behalf of the State Government here on Tuesday. A draft regulation on liquid waste management and its maintenance and user charges was tabled and opinions were sought from representatives of all companies.
