A special Mahila Samman programme was organised on Thursday at Haryana Bhawan in Delhi where women from various districts of Haryana gathered to witness the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill’s discussion in the new Parliament House.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his instrumental role in introducing the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill which promises to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

Khattar emphasised that the passage of this Bill in the Lok Sabha is a stepping stone toward its enactment in the Rajya Sabha. He underscored the bill's commendable nature, asserting that it will serve as a pivotal milestone in advancing women's empowerment.  “Nari Shakti Vandan Bill has emerged as a beacon of hope for women in India, symbolising a significant stride towards gender equality and women's participation in politics,” said Khattar.

He said that the State is already a trailblazer in promoting gender equality, providing 50 percent reservation for women in local self-governance institutions and Panchayats.  He expressed his aspiration for a similar provision to be instituted in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, further championing the cause of gender balance in politics.

The Chief Minister said that the introduction of the Women's Reservation Bill on the very first day of a special session in the new Parliament House was hailed as a historic legislative endeavour. He anticipated that the bill would soon become law after gaining approval in state assemblies nationwide.
