Six member German team visit KVK Giridih

A six-member team of agricultural scientists from Welthungerhilfe Institute (WHH) of Germany visited the working Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Giridih, a subsidiary of Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), on Thursday. The team saw direct sowing of paddy, row sowing of paddy, cultivation of giloy, advanced cultivation of horticulture crops, mushroom unit, vermicompost unit, nutrition garden and technical park in the fields of KVK, Giridih.

During the visit the team also observed the programs of local farmers in Kisan Hostel. The team included agricultural scientists Stephanie Greybel, Nicolas Beaugemann, Uno Müller, Sanchari Mukhopadhyay, Vijay Dey, Gagan Mehta and Krishna Kant from the Welthungerhilfe Institute.

The visiting German team appreciated the agricultural extension activities of KVK, Giridih. The team participated in the discussion with BAU Vice Chancellor, Dr Onkar Nath Singh through online medium. Singh informed the visiting German team about the activities of teaching, research and extension programs conducted by the university. Expressed happiness for the visit and participation of KVK, Giridih and thanked the German team.

During this, the German team expressed its desire for cooperation and participation in research and agriculture. The team sought cooperation from German researchers to come to KVK, Giridih for quarterly and half-yearly internship studies in the agriculture sector under the skill development transfer program of the institute.

The team emphasized on promotion of climate friendly farming, flowers, horticulture, animal husbandry, organic manure, processing and promotion in Giridih district with the cooperation of both the institutions. Also expressed the desire to sign an MoU in this regard. The team said that local NGO Abhivyakti Foundation will also participate in this program. Under this MoU, priority will be mainly on the works of research work, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and skill development, empowerment of rural women.

 During this program In-Charge of KVK, Giridih, Dr. Sanjay Seth honored the six member German team by giving them organ clothes according to Jharkhand culture. Dr Naveen Kumar, Madhukar Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Shubhankar, Yugal Bharti and Krishna Kant Prasad, Bhim Singh and others of Expression Foundation were also present on the occasion.
The Welthungerhilfe Institute (WHH) is one of Germany's largest private aid agencies.
