Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday approved the acquisition of land at Khanpur Village in South Delhi facilitating the completion of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor of Metro Phase-IV.
A senior Raj Niwas official said, “A major hurdle in the completion of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad Corridor of Metro Phase-IV, lying unresolved since 2020 has finally been resolved with Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena approving the acquisition of land measuring 1688 sq.mtr at Khanpur Village in South Delhi.”
He added that a land belonging to Education Department has also been transferred to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). “In another important move, the LG has also approved the transfer of land measuring 1600 sq.mtr belonging to the Education Department, for an year to DMRC, in lieu of a rent of Rs 13,37,135,” the officer said.
“This decision will facilitate the construction of interchange station on the RK Ashram - Majlis Park and Indraprastha - InderLok Corridors of Delhi Metro,” he added.
The official said that this vacant land will be used for construction activities for development of the underground station at the Idgah Road, which is to be named as Nabi Karim Metro Station. “The underground station will be constructed below the piece of land being transferred to DMRC and once the construction is completed, it will be handed over back to the Education Department,” a statement said.
It added that the land to be acquired at Khanpur had been pending for more than four years, with DMRC having made a request for acquisition way back on July 7, 2020. “Once the acquisition takes place now, this critical section of the Aerocity- Tughlakabad Metro Corridor will be completed in a period of about one year,” it said.
“This in turn will help people commuting from densely populated colonies of South-East Delhi to the Airport and other locations on the line far easier, in the process also addressing the issue of perpetual traffic jams on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road,” it added.
An official said that similarly, once developed, the Nabi Karim interchange station at Idgah Road will help seamless metro travel for people commuting on the heavily traversed RK Ashram-Majlis Park and Indraprastha-InderLok Corridors of Delhi Metro.
