Six persons died in three separate road accidents in the State on Monday night and Tuesday. While one person died in an accident in Chamoli district late on Monday night, a couple along with their three-year-old daughter died in Haridwar’s Roorkee after a tractor trolley hit their bike early on Tuesday. The couple’s other daughter sustained some injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment, said the officials. In Tehri district, two persons died and one was injured when their jeep fell into a gorge in the Jakhnidhar block on Tuesday evening.
In Roorkee, officials said that the couple, identified as Sonu alias Irshad and Nazma, was returning to their home in Roorkee’s Puhana village from Purkaji in Uttar Pradesh on a bike with their two daughters on Tuesday. A tractor trolley reportedly hit their bike from the front when they reached the Jhabreda area and both parents along with their three-year-old daughter died at the spot while the second child sustained injuries, as per the officials. They said that as per the locals, the driver escaped after seeing the bodies of the victims. The police team reached the spot after getting the information about the accident and took the victims to the hospital. Many family members and acquaintances of the deceased also reached the hospital and demanded the arrest of the absconding driver. The station house officer of the Jhabreda police station Dharmendra Rathi assured them that the police have started searching for the accused. He also informed that the bodies were sent for post mortem after completing the necessary procedures. No complaint was filed in the case till evening, as per the police.
In Tehri district, two persons died and one was injured when their jeep fell into a 100-metre deep gorge on the Niralidhar-Dapoli-Sunali motor road at about 6 PM on Tuesday. The injured man was admitted to the community health centre at Hindolakhal. The identities of the casualties and the exact cause of the mishap were not ascertained till the time of this report being filed.
Earlier, late on Monday night one person died and four others were injured when their car fell into a gorge on Salud motor road in Joshimath area of Chamoli district. The injured were sent to the district hospital in Gopeshwar from where one seriously injured person was referred to a higher centre. According to sources, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle which then fell about 100 metres down the mountainside. The State Disaster Response Force personnel rescued two injured persons while two others had minor injuries and were able to come up on their own. Dungra Salud resident Surat Singh Chauhan died on the spot while Sobat Singh Chauhan sustained serious injuries and was referred to a higher centre.
