Hazaribag MP cum Co-Chairman Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance Jayant Sinha has met Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda and has urged him to provide relief to the farmers suffering from drought. Sinha said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our farmer brothers and sisters are continuously progressing and developing.
"As you know, my parliamentary constituency Hazaribagh is a development-oriented area of Jharkhand, which is rapidly moving towards all-round progress.A large part of the two districts of my parliamentary constituency, Hazaribag and Ramgarh, are rural economy areas, where the livelihood of 70 per cent of the population depends on agriculture. While on one hand the farmers of my area are getting the benefits of various welfare schemes of the Modi government, on the other hand the farmers of some areas are facing natural consequences due to scanty rainfall," he said.
"According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 6 blocks of Hazaribagh district are severely affected and 9 blocks affected by moderate drought in 2023.In this regard, a report has been sent to the state by the district administration for appropriate action and relief.According to this report, all these blocks have been included in Trigger 2.However, the actual situation is much more serious than this.During recent visits to the area, thousands of farmers and agricultural institutions have told me about the problems they are facing due to deficient rainfall.Keeping in mind the demands of thousands of farmers, I humbly request you to send a team from the Center to get the area inspected once so that the farming brothers and sisters can get the necessary relief," he added.
Jayant Sinha said that it is extremely sad and worrying that the Jharkhand government has not taken necessary steps to provide relief to the farmers in the state.According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, about 210 blocks of Jharkhand were in the grip of drought this year, out of which 9 blocks had severe drought, less than 60% rainfall was recorded in these blocks.Despite drought in more than 200 blocks of Jharkhand, the Jharkhand government did not claim drought relief from the Central Government in respect of the loss in Kharif crop.Jayant Sinha has urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to take immediate action on this serious matter and provide relief to our farmers by coordinating with the Central Government.
