High drama unfolded in Garadihi panchayat of Nilgiri block in Baleswar district on Thursday as the local sarpanch broke a plaque after the MLA inaugurated a road in the locality.
As per reports, Garadihi sarpanch Shivaji Singh created ruckus near the plaque as Nilgiri MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak reached the spot to inaugurate the road.
The sarpanch alleged that neither his name was mentioned in the plaque nor was he invited to the inauguration event.
The situation turned ugly as the sarpanch smashed the plaque after the road inauguration by the MLA.
Tension ran high in the area after the incident as many villagers blocked State Highway-19 protesting against the sarpanch’s act, thereby affecting vehicular movement.
“Some people are getting jealous over the development of the area. They are trying to mislead the public. There was no need for mentioning the name of the sarpanch in the plaque,” said MLA Nayak
