Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has become a proud recipient of the prestigious National CSR Golden Peacock Award 2023 in the Steel Sector.  P K Swain, CGM (TA & CSR) and Munmun Mittra GM(CSR) received the award on behalf of RSP at the glittering function of the  18th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility a held at Hotel Taj Land Ends, Mumbai  on 21st December 2023.  Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, Chief Justice of the High Court of Mumbai, and UU Lalit, former Chief Justice of India handed over the awards.

Notably the award was given to RSP for its Integrated Approach for Economic Upliftment of Small Women Farmers through Sustainable Green Farming using Organic Farming Techniques.  A project  undertaken which have helped fetch this award is organic farming  carried out in association with NIT Rourkela, with an aim to train 700 farmers from periphery villages, mostly women in a period of 4 years in Vermicompost, Organic Manures, Biopesticides and Soil Health Management. 

The objective is to empower women, build their capacities,  improve the  soil condition of small rural land holdings, provide marketing facilities, support networking through ORMAS, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, NIT Rourkela, Department of Horticulture (Govt. of Odisha) and consumers along with SHG groups, supplement family income, ensure eco-friendly sustainability, dovetailing with Government sponsored projects and using the SHG groups through the Mission Shakti project in an effective manner for a long lasting effect on the mind space of people for greener modes of farming without compromising on soil health and better shelf life of products.
