Two persons were hacked to death by a 35-year-old man over a trivial matter in Sundargarh district on December 16. The matter came to the fore after the accused surrendered on Monday.
The accused Jura Munda of Amarudi village under the K Bolang police station in the district confessed to the crime.
An argument had ensued between Munda and two of his fellow villagers, Charan Burwelli (24) and Janka Sundhi (45), after the former ate a dead chicken on December 16. Subsequently, the accused killed the two villagers by attacking them with an axe. He dumped the bodies in a nearby nullah to destroy the evidence.
The family members of the two deceased could not trace them despite launching a search operation on the same day.
“The accused today came to the police station and informed us about the incident. We seized the bodies from the nullah and launched a probe in this regard. The accused has been detained for interrogation,” said a police officer.
