A hearing was held in the Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday on the criminal revision of Inspector, Shiv Kumar Kanojia, accused of the suicide of late Sahibganj Woman Police Station In-Charge, Rupa Tirkey. In his petition, he had requested that the charge sheet filed by the police in this case should not be accepted. Rather the closure report of CBI should be accepted. During the hearing, the court executed the petition of Shiv Kumar Kanojia, removing the stay on the trial. The trial of Rupa Tirkey's death case was halted on the orders of the High Court.

This case was heard in the court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi. Advocates Rohitsya Roy and Vibhor Mayank argued on behalf of Shiv Kumar. In this case, a case number 127/2021 has been registered in Borio police station of Sahibganj district. Shiv Kumar Kanojia is currently on bail. Jharkhand High Court has provided him the bail.

Sahibganj police had arrested 2018 batch sub-inspector Shiv Kanojia on May 9, 2021, in the suicide case of Rupa Tirkey. CBI has investigated this entire matter. CBI has also filed its closure report in this case. At the same time, before CBI took up the case, the police had also filed a charge sheet. Kanojia is Sub Inspector  (SI) of 2018 batch. There was friendship between Shiv Kumar and Rupa. There was frequent talk between the two on mobile.

Rupa Tirkey was a resident of Kathitand under Ratu police station of Ranchi. She was reinstated as a Sub-Inspector of the 2018 batch. Tirkey had committed suicide by tying a rope around his neck on May 3 at her Government residence in Sahibganj. Tirkey’s Father, Devanand Oraon had said- 'Rupa has not committed suicide. She has been murdered. The police are calling it a case of love affair and giving it the color of suicide. The circumstances in which the body was found after the daughter's death indicate that it was not a suicide,” he added.

Police are calling Rupa's suicide a case of love affair. Shiv Kanojia, who is said to be Rupa's friend, has been arrested in this case. Police investigation has revealed that the last call on Rupa's mobile on the day of suicide was from Shiv Kumar Kanojia.
