In a proactive effort to enhance road safety measures, the District Traffic and Road Safety Committee held a crucial meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri. The committee focused on pressing issues, including private hospital admissions, road accidents, and stringent actions against traffic violations.
One of the key highlights of the meeting was the discussion surrounding private hospital admissions for road accident injuries. Bhajantri assured that if an injured person is admitted to a private hospital during the golden hour, the hospital management will not face legal repercussions. The emphasis was on promoting humanity and preventing loss of life by providing timely treatment during the critical golden hour.
Expressing concern over the surge in road accidents, particularly in November, the committee deliberated on necessary measures to address the issue. A total of 38 road accidents were reported in the district during November, resulting in 31 fatalities and 21 injuries. Bhajantri stressed the importance of caution during the festival season, especially among the youth. Parents were urged to ensure that minors do not have access to vehicles.
The committee directed the District Transport Officer (DTO) and DSP Traffic to conduct intensive campaigns against rash driving and driving under the influence. Immediate FIRs were recommended against individuals found guilty of drink and drive offenses. The committee underscored the responsibility of citizens to follow traffic rules for the safety of all road users.
Concerned about overspeeding and incorrect driving directions causing accidents, the committee directed NHAI officials to take appropriate actions on highways following IRC guidelines. NHAI, RCD, and Tata Steel UISL (JUSCO) were instructed to install mandatory marking and signage boards on all roads and intersections. The company was specifically tasked with installing markings, signage boards, and rumble strips on Marine Drive Road.
The committee addressed the timely compensation payment to the families of those killed in road accidents. Bhajantri instructed the DTO to expedite the compensation process. Of the total 41 cases, payments have been made to the families of 22, and efforts are underway to resolve the remaining cases.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, SDM Dhalbhum Piyush Sinha, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi, SDM Ghatsila Satyaveer Rajak, District Education Officer Mrs. Nirmala Barelia, DTO Dhananjay, District Public Relations Officer Rohit Kumar, DSP Traffic Animesh Gupta, among others.
