Punjab Government has taken a significant step to prioritize the welfare of Divyang persons by granting a 100 per cent toll exemption on National Highways in the State. Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, revealing this initiative, emphasized the Government's commitment to inclusivity.
Under the new policy, vehicles registered in the name of Divyang persons, as per the Motor Vehicle Act-1988, and its rules, will enjoy a complete toll exemption on national highways. To qualify for this benefit, Divyang individuals must ensure that their vehicles are registered under their ownership with the specific Divyang status mentioned on the registration certificate.
Dr Baljit Kaur explained the process for Divyang persons to register their new or existing vehicles with the state Transport Department. Interested individuals can obtain a special exempted fast tag by visiting the website — https://exemptedfastag.nhai.org/exemptedfastag/ — filling out the online form, and receiving the Exempted Special Fast Tag from the competent authority. This tag must be affixed to the Divyang person's vehicle to avail of the toll exemption.
For comprehensive information on the rules governing this initiative, the Minister directed the individuals to visit the Department's website — https://sswcd.punjab.gov.in/.
Additionally, Divyang persons facing any challenges in utilizing this facility can seek assistance from the office of the District Social Security Officer in their district or the Child Development Project Officer in the relevant block.
