To keep the rates of beer within reasonable limits, Punjab Government has fixed its minimum and maximum rates.
“This step has been taken to check the exorbitant prices of beer besides discouraging its smuggling from the neighboring states. Such steps would also discourage the production and consumption of illicit liquor,” said the state Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday.
Cheema, who chaired the monthly review meeting of Excise Department on Thursday, said that the minimum and maximum retail sale price of pints and cans of the beer would be proportionately fixed in relation to the minimum and maximum retail sale price of their quarts.
