Punjab Cong youth workers face water cannon during protests over law and order

Monday, 18 December 2023 | PNS | Chandigarh

Tension flared in Chandigarh as police employed a water cannon to disperse Punjab Youth Congress workers attempting to march towards the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence in Chandigarh’s Sector-2 to protest against the perceived deterioration of law and order under the AAP government in the state.

Several Youth Congress leaders were detained by the police during the demonstration, which took place near the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Sector-15. The protest, organized by the Youth Congress, commenced with a dharna where demonstrators raised slogans condemning the AAP government.

Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra expressed his concerns about the alleged collapse of law and order in the state through a series of posts on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Mohindra emphasized the Youth Congress’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing Punjab's law and order, holding the AAP government responsible for the situation. He claimed that the protest was more than a demonstration; it was an ultimatum to the AAP government, asserting the youth's determination to demand a safer state.

The Youth Congress chief's social media posts featured images of the protest and workers being detained by the police. In one post, Mohindra stated, “We stand united against the tide of deteriorating law and order in Punjab. The @AAPPunjab government's incapability is evident, but the @IYCPunjab is resolute in our commitment to fight for a safer and better Punjab.”

Mohindra declared that the protest signified a vocal, resolute, and unyielding demand for a safer state. “Today’s protest by @IYCPunjab was more than a demonstration — it was an ultimatum to @AAPPunjab. The youth of Punjab is vocal, resolute and unyielding in our demand for a safer state…We will not be silent; we will fight for our rights and strive to make Punjab a secure haven for all. This is a fight for the future of Punjab,” he posted on X.
