A team of forest guards led by the incharge forester Navin Kumar Prasad nabbed two cyclists and seized three cycles with three logs of wood of the felled tree of the tiger reserve Palamu at Opag under the Amwatiker beat of the Chhipadohar east range of the tiger reserve Palamu.
One cyclist managed to escape leaving behind his cycle and log of wood. The team seized rope from each of the three cycles. Rope is used to bind the illicit wood in the frame of the cycle.
The two arrested have been identified as Sukh Lal Parhaiyya, 29 and Karamdeo Parhaiyya, 18 of Opag village.
The two have been remanded in judicial custody in Latehar.
The incharge forester Navin Kr Prasad said there was a tip off about the wood being shipped by the cycles. A raid was organised by the team which resulted in the arrest and seizures of the cycles and illicit wood.
The illicit wood is sold in the local market at any price. The three seized wood could fetch around 15 to 20 thousands of rupees if bargained properly.
The illicit wood was of the Saal and Beej variety of trees.
