A police constable was suspended and booked under the charges of rape, allegedly committed on the pretext of marriage, an officer in Bareilly said on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said, “An FIR of rape was lodged against Shahnawaz, a police constable, on Tuesday at the Subhash Nagar Police Station on the complaint of woman who alleged that Shahnawaz raped her on several occasion on the pretext of marriage.”
The constable was suspended on the order of the Senior Superintendent of Police, the officer said.
Meanwhile in Barabanki, four men have been arrested for allegedly raping a Dalit woman in Deva area, police said on Wednesday. According to the victim, she had a fight with her husband on Monday and left for her in-laws’ house. On her way to her maternal home, four people, Mughal Azam alias Riyaz, Ashraf alias Bhure, Shabbu and Islamuddin, offered her a lift in their car, police said.
When she refused to sit in the car, two of them pulled her on the back seat and stuffed a cloth in her mouth. They later took her to an isolated house and gang-raped her, police said.
The woman somehow managed to call her sister-in-law, who informed the entire incident to the police. The police immediately rushed to the spot, rescued her, and caught one of the accused, they said.
Additional Superintendent of Police CN Sinha said that the medical examination of the victim woman was being conducted and all the accused were arrested.
